Job Description

OBJECTIVE
The Naval Architect’s responsibilities shall include direction, promotion & coordination of the operations for ZMCS Mumbai in a manner that will optimize the company’s business, savings, improve the company’s efficiency and help towards achieving the company’s mission and goals and outstanding customer service.

AUTHORITY
The Naval Architect has the authority to set targets & boundaries and decide activities, related to the projects assigned to ZMCS Mumbai. This shall however be within the budget & limitations agreed with the General Manager, Mumbai & / or the Client. Appraisal of the staff under his management shall be conducted in coordination with HR department once a year. The Naval Architect shall report any non-conformity to the General Manager– Mumbai.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Naval Architect’s responsibilities involve – Supervision of Technical Activities, Public relations, Sales & Marketing, Reporting on each of the activities and other duties as assigned by the General Manager Mumbai,

At least 10 – 15 years carrying out following with reputed Design House:
Technical Activities

• Vessel Initial and Basic Design for New Building & Conversion Projects.
• Working knowledge of detailed design/ Production Drawings.
• Other Design related activities for Maritime or Port Applications.
• Condition Assessment Surveys and Reports
• Site inspection & reporting for New Building & Conversion projects as may be necessary.
• Implementation and management of project scheduling and cost control systems
• Liasion with Class and clients
• Conducting Inclining and making report
• Naval Architecture computations/ calculations
• Hull Modeling
• Hands on exp with Acad
• Preparation of stability booklets

Analysis of the project requirements:

• To participate in various projects as required with special competence in relation to Naval Architecture, overall project management and vessel design related activities. Design activities shall include new design as well as conversions and repairs.
• Utilize in an optimal way all project resources in projects assigned to him/her
• Ensure that the work is in accordance with principles of good shipbuilding practices.
• Implement proper documentation and filing procedures as per ZMCS standards.
• Operate the projects within the assigned budget.
• Ensure that the invoices are raised as per the contractual agreement.
• Appraise General Manager, Mumbai at all times of project progress.
• Shall be proactive to envisage likely problems and take necessary corrective action. 
• Ensure that the Design and New Building services are operated in an efficient manner, according to budgets approved by the Director Technical.
• Ensure that the work is performed in accordance with the governing quality documentation of ZMCS.

Sales and Marketing responsibility

• In cases where he has a special relationship with clients that either ZMCS or other units within Zebec are actively marketing, he shall come forward and lend support.
• Formulate and implement a strategy for marketing at Mumbai.
• Assist with marketing & business development for the company in areas outside Mumbai.

Public Relations

• The Naval Architect shall build and maintain positive relationships with ZMCS Mumbai, other ZMCS offices, the business community and local public authorities.
